Description:

The presented painting is characterized by a high level of painting. Compositionally, it was conceived as a very dynamic shot of a rider riding a galloping horse. The realism of the presentation and the ability to depict the figure and anatomy of a horse at a gallop are the main features of this work created before World War II.


Biography:

Zygmunt Rozwadowski (1870 - 1950) Polish battle painter, set designer, Legion soldier, co-creator of, among others, Panorama of Racławice and the creator of the rogatywka project of the 1st Uhlan Regiment of the Polish Legions. From 1883 to 1890 he studied at the Krakow School of Fine Arts, among others. with Jan Matejko, and in the years 1891-1893 in Munich, at Anton Ažbé's private school. While still a student, he made his debut at TPSP in Krakow, exhibiting under the name Jordan. After graduation, he lived in Lviv - he taught at the Industrial School, exhibited many times, and collaborated on the decoration of the halls of the Lviv theater. During World War I he fought in the Legions. After World War II he lived in Zakopane. He painted mainly battle paintings from the Napoleonic times and the November Uprising, genre scenes with horse motifs, and less often portraits and landscapes. He participated in painting popular panoramas - Racławice with Jan Styka and Wojciech Kossak, Golgotha, Panorama Transylvania and Martyrdom of Christians with Styka, and Battle of the Pyramids with Kossak. Together with Tadeusz Popiel, he painted the dioramas Tatar Branki and the Battle of Grunwald
