#113: Adam Setkowicz (1876 -1945) — Genre winter scene

Archived offer. Price visible after logging in.

Description:

In the horizontal composition typical of the artist, in the winter aura, the painter placed a genre scene from the life of a Polish village with four carriages pulled by five horses (three chestnut and two gray). A dog is visible next to the sleigh. The group is heading to the left, men are sitting on the sleigh. On the right side, next to the road along which the teams go, there is a simple wooden chapel, and in the distance there is a cottage covered with snow. The composition is quite extensive. This watercolor is distinguished by beautiful, vivid colors with Setkowicz's characteristic perspective from which the scene is shown and with his typical painting manner. This painting is rich in many details, such as animal tracks in the snow, shadows, elements of horse harnesses, nuances of clothing... etc. The painter masterfully reflected the anatomical details of people and, above all, horses, which, considering such a difficult and demanding technique as watercolor, is quite an art and proves his artistic skill.

The painting is behind glass, framed in a passe-partout.
The painting has a certificate issued by DESE confirming its authenticity.

Adam Setkowicz (Kraków 1876 - Kraków 1945) is a popular painter of genre scenes with horse-drawn carriages, hunting, sleighs and snow, painted in watercolor or oil, in which he clearly referred to the works of Alfred Wierusz-Kowalski, Józef Brandt and Julian Fałat. In the years 1897-1898, the artist studied at the Krakow School of Fine Arts under Teodor Axentowicz, and in 1933 he took part in an exhibition in Piotrków Trybunalski.
