#430: Tapiseria (Gobelin) - XVIII w — Genre scene with a swing in a park (garden)

55000 zł

Description:

Tapestry (Gobelin), genre scene with a swing in a park (garden).
Western Europe, early 18th century (ca. 1730) - probably Flanders or France.
Technique: decorative fabric, wool and silk.

Tapestry with a pastoral-genre theme, maintained in a style characteristic of the 17th century, inspired by French and Flemish painting. The composition depicts a social scene in a garden or park - two men pushing a swing on which a young woman is sitting. The background is filled with an elaborate, painterly forest landscape, with monumental trees with dense crowns and a deep landscape plan. The whole is framed by a decorative border with plant motifs and ornamental cartouches.

The fabric is made with great attention to detail: visible subtle tonal transitions, plastic modeling of the figures, and finely detailed embellishment of the plant elements. Tapestries of this type were created in renowned French (Aubusson, Beauvais) and Flemish (Brussels, Oudenaarde) manufactories and constituted part of the luxurious furnishings of aristocratic residences.

The condition of the piece is good considering its age; minor abrasions and spot losses typical of historic fabrics.
