Biography:

Mieczysław Filipkiewicz was the brother of the painter Stefan Filipkiewicz. In the years 1910-1915 he studied at the Kraków Academy with S. Dębicki, J. Pankiewicz, and Teodor Axentowicz. Then he worked as a technical draftsman on the construction of a narrow-gauge railway in the territory of the former Kingdom of Poland and completed his education in Vienna. In 1921, he returned to the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, where until 1923 he continued his studies under Wojciech Weiss. During his studies, he received numerous awards and distinctions, including a bronze medal. He exhibited from 1925 with a group of unaffiliated artists, mainly at TPSP in Krakow. He was a member of the Board of the Professional Association of Visual Artists. He received awards at national exhibitions several times. Filipkiewicz was one of the landscape painters greatly influenced by Jan Stanisławski. He was interested in both maritime and Tatra themes, expressed both in oil techniques and graphics. He also painted flowers and still lifes, and occasionally figurative compositions. He also dealt with applied graphics and worked in the field of applied art.
